PROJECT 3

Final Object: Sadness

Separation and isolation were the words I used to describe my design language of sadness.  The stacking of separate parts of my form, along with the separation of the ball bearing joint I feel illustrates these feelings in form. I was disappointed to not have a functional object that matched my conception, was the result of a lack of experimentation and knowledge of laser cutting. There were limits to the sizing that I did not understand along with the refraction that accurse when cutting acrylic. Overall I am happy that my intention of forms and proportions was still able to be achieved, along with the burnt finish.

Pre laser cutting:
Here is my final model, I have extruded holes for a central axis and for bass rod, which I will be using as my wiring. I intend to have the brass connections to slide past each other to power the object.

PROJECT 3

Progress report:

To date I have tested my dimensions, and have updated my design to match these.  I have worked out how I am to construct my form using acrylic, and have sourced the chemical weld glue stuff.

I have been thinking about the finish I would like the object to have. While the clear acrylic is a great finish, I would also like to separate the two sides. I intend to do this using the heat gun to blacken one side, while keeping the other side clear and clean.

I need to finalise my solid works model and illustrator files by Friday, as I have booked to laser cut over the weekend.

This should leave me time to construct my object and start constructing my drawings for hand in.
